Trinidad and Tobago secures second place among Caribbean nations
Trinidad and Tobago emerged as the Caribbean’s next-best performer, collecting seven medals during the Games.
Although the twin-island republic did not capture a gold medal, it earned three silver and four bronze medals to comfortably secure second place among regional nations.
President of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee, Diane Henderson, praised the team’s efforts, expressing satisfaction with how the athletes competed against elite international opposition.
“…I mean, the level of competition, the overall performances, I think the performances were good. They were very good performances,” she said.
Several Caribbean nations reach the podium
Beyond Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, several Caribbean countries celebrated podium finishes during the Games.
The Bahamas concluded its campaign with two medals, claiming one gold and one silver.
The British Virgin Islands, Dominica and Grenada each celebrated a gold-medal performance, while Barbados secured one silver medal and Bermuda earned a solitary bronze.
The results highlighted the region’s continued ability to produce world-class performances across multiple sporting disciplines despite comparatively smaller delegations.
Australia dominates overall medal table
Australia finished as the undisputed leader of the Commonwealth Games, producing a commanding total of 171 medals, including 70 gold, 45 silver and 56 bronze.
England placed second with 110 medals, 29 gold, 45 silver and 36 bronze, while Canada completed the top three with 62 medals, comprising 19 gold, 20 silver and 23 bronze.
Although the traditional sporting powers once again occupied the top of the global standings, Jamaica’s eighth-place finish underscored its remarkable ability to compete with far larger nations while maintaining its status as the Caribbean’s benchmark for excellence on the Commonwealth stage.
