Jamaica Customs Agency thwarts cocaine trafficking operations destined for Thailand

The Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) achieved a major breakthrough by intercepting two cocaine trafficking operations at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) Cargo Section on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

High-stakes discovery at NMIA

During their routine Customs operations, Customs Officers stationed at NMIA unearthed a concealed stash of cocaine ingeniously tucked away in a toaster oven bound for Thailand. 

Collaboration with Authorities Underway

In response to the discovery, the JCA is collaborating closely with law enforcement authorities to delve deeper into the origins of the narcotics and the individuals entangled in this illicit operation.

A resounding message to criminal networks

Reports are that Mrs. Velma Ricketts Walker, the CEO/Commissioner of Customs, emphasized the significance of this latest seizure as a stern warning to criminal networks attempting to exploit non-traditional global trade routes.

Ricketts Walker shared that the seizure not only disrupts the illicit drug trade but also serves as a resounding message to criminal enterprises seeking to exploit alternative routes for drug trafficking.

A string of seizures reflect vigilance

Since October 2023, the JCA has recorded 10 cocaine seizures within Customs-controlled areas.
