The official National Emancipation and Independence Thanksgiving Church Service for Jamaica’s 63rd anniversary will take place on Sunday, July 27, under the theme ‘Be Proud, Be Bold in Black, Green, and Gold’.

Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the service will be held at the Faith Cathedral Deliverance Centre, located at 104 Waltham Park Road in Kingston. It is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. and will be hosted by the church’s pastor, Dr. Herro Blair.

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Hon. Olivia Grange, is expected to deliver remarks during the event. Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, along with other government officials, is also expected to attend.

Pastor Dane Fletcher, Youth Director for the Jamaica Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, will serve as the guest speaker.

A sub-theme for the event — ‘Rooted and Grounded: Bold in Faith, Proud Heritage’ — has been incorporated by the Committee for the Promotion of National Religious Services (CPNRS), according to Andrea McCurdy, Production Manager and Coordinator at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC).

“That will undergird the national theme,” McCurdy told JIS News.

Among the musical participants will be local and regional gospel minister Carey Sayles, as well as the Voices of Deliverance Choir from the host church.

“We are looking forward to the delivery from him. Also, we will be having, from the host church, the Voices of Deliverance Choir. They usually are very lively, very powerful in their music presentation and delivery, so we expect a powerful time of ministry from them,” McCurdy said.

She added that this year’s service is expected to be particularly impactful: “We anticipate an excellent service, not only because of where we are hosting it this year but also surrounding the theme of being proud and being bold in our Jamaican colours.”

“As people gather together to worship, we expect God to show up as well. So we invite everyone to come,” she said.

The service will be broadcast live on LOVE TV and streamed on the official social media platforms of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) and the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC).
