The world’s largest cruise ship, known as the “Icon of the Seas,” docked at Port Zante, St. Kitts, during its maiden voyage yesterday.

The ship had a total of 5,610 passengers on board.

Tourism in St Kitts

Marsha Henderson, the dedicated Tourism Minister of St. Kitts, reiterated the pivotal role that tourism plays in bolstering the country’s economic growth.

She underscored that the tourism sector contributes significantly, accounting for more than 40 per cent of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Minister Henderson noted that the livelihoods of a substantial portion of the local population depend on the thriving tourism industry.

She added that St. Kitts has been graced by the presence of such majestic cruise ships since the year 2011.

From Miami to the Caribbean odyssey

The Icon of the Seas commenced its maiden voyage just three days ago, embarking from its home port in Miami, Florida.

The construction of the ship took 900 days, and set sail from PortMiami on January 27, 2024, offering year-round alternating seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.

This state-of-the-art cruise liner is set to visit two more nations before concluding its first-ever journey.
