Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council has approved 15 of the 18 political groupings registered for the country's upcoming elections, giving the three groups that were not approved until Tuesday to regularize their status.
The CEP announced the list of approved political groups Aug. 10, citing Article 129 of the Electoral Decree of June 2, 2026.
The three groups that were not approved are Platfòm Politik Gras Pou Ayiti, known as PPGA, represented by Mike Onel Marette; Grand Rassemblement National Démocrate, or GRAND, represented by Iswick Theophin; and Gwoupman Rasanble, or RASANBLE, represented by Innocent Joseph.
The three groups have until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, to regularize their status with the electoral council.
The registration process for political groups is continuing this week, from Aug. 10-14, in accordance with Haiti's electoral calendar.
The calendar calls for voter registration to continue through Oct. 13, while candidate registration is scheduled to begin Aug. 20 and run through Oct. 2.
The first round of presidential and legislative elections, along with a constitutional referendum, is scheduled for Dec. 13. Preliminary results are expected to be published Dec. 19, with final results for the first round scheduled for Jan. 9, 2027.
A second round of presidential and legislative elections, along with local elections, is scheduled for Feb. 21, 2027. Final results for the second round of presidential and legislative elections are scheduled for March 7, with final local election results expected March 12.
The electoral campaign for the first round is scheduled to begin Oct. 5 and run through Dec. 12. The campaign for the second round is scheduled for Jan. 10 through Feb. 20, 2027.
The CEP's approval of political groups is one of several steps leading up to the elections, which are expected to be Haiti's first national elections in years.
The electoral council said the process is proceeding according to the current electoral calendar.
