Guyana and Canada collaborate to empower youth in technological fields

Guyana’s President, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, has unveiled plans for a dynamic partnership with Canada aimed at nurturing the talents of the country’s young population in cutting-edge technological domains.

This collaborative initiative was announced during President Ali’s address at the Agri-Investment Forum and Expo, held on a Friday, where he outlined a transformative program that aspires to usher in a wave of technical innovation among the youth.

Ali shared that the goal is to see no less than 3,000 young Guyanese individuals gainfully employed in technically innovative roles within the upcoming years.

A vision for prosperity: Guyana’s Youth at the Helm

President Ali highlighted the pivotal role that the dedication and tenacity of the younger generation would play in steering Guyana towards prosperity, particularly in the critical areas of food production, energy generation, and climate resilience.

President Ali pointed to the ongoing efforts and strategic investments of his government as the cornerstones of a robust, prosperous, resilient, and sustainable future for Guyana and its people.

Strengthening bilateral ties: A discussion with Canada

President Ali’s announcement comes on the heels of his return from a pivotal Caribbean Community-Canada Summit in Ottawa, where he engaged in a bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

During this meeting, both leaders deliberated on several critical aspects of collaboration, underlining Canada’s commitment to support Guyana’s burgeoning oil and gas industry expansion.

They also explored strategies for bolstering the agricultural sector, enhancing investments, ensuring food security, and fortifying Guyana's resilience in the face of climate change.
