Florida Power & Light Company has launched a new online Assistance Center aimed at helping customers manage their electricity bills, reduce energy use and connect with financial assistance programs.

The center includes FPL Saving Steps, a new program that allows eligible customers to earn a one-time $200 credit toward a future electricity bill.

FPL announced the initiative Monday as high summer temperatures continue to drive increased energy consumption across Florida.

“Customers are looking for clear, practical ways to manage their bills, and the Assistance Center is designed to make that support easier to find, whether a customer needs help today, wants to lower their future bill or is looking for additional resources to help pay other expenses including medical bills, rent or mortgage assistance,” said Dawn Nichols, vice president of customer service at FPL.

“We also want to encourage customers who may not qualify for government assistance to visit this resource and check if they qualify for our new bill credit program, Saving Steps,” Nichols added.

Through Saving Steps, participants can learn practical ways to reduce everyday energy use and manage monthly expenses. Eligible customers who complete the program can receive the $200 bill credit.

The Assistance Center also consolidates several existing FPL and federal programs for customers experiencing financial difficulties.

Among them is FPL’s Payment Extension program, which gives eligible customers additional time to pay their bills, and the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, which provides assistance with home energy costs to qualifying low-income households.

FPL’s Care To Share program provides emergency bill-payment assistance and support for certain electrical repairs to qualifying individuals and families experiencing temporary financial hardship.

Customers can also find information about FPL’s Bill Extender, which offers eligible customers an extended payment due date, and Budget Billing, which spreads seasonal fluctuations in electricity costs across the year to provide more predictable monthly bills.

The center includes information on programs designed to help customers reduce their energy consumption and costs.

FPL On Call, for example, provides customers with more than $90 in annual bill credits in exchange for allowing the utility to briefly pause certain appliances during periods of peak electricity demand.

Customers can also use FPL’s free Energy Manager tool for personalized information and recommendations about household electricity consumption. Qualifying households may also receive energy-efficient home upgrades through the company's Community Energy Saver program.

Beyond electricity costs, the Assistance Center includes a searchable directory connecting customers with local nonprofits and community organizations that provide help with food, transportation, rent, mortgage payments and other essential expenses.

The directory is powered by Findhelp, a social-service referral platform.

“Just as Florida Power & Light provides the essential physical infrastructure to keep the lights on across the state, collectively, we're building critical social care infrastructure,” Findhelp founder and CEO Erine Gray said.

“We are proud that Findhelp is powering the directory within the new FPL Assistance Center. By connecting individuals to local nonprofits for food, rent, and transportation assistance, we ensure people receive meaningful relief when they need it.”

Customers can find the Assistance Center and information about eligibility for its programs on FPL’s website: https://www.fpl.com/assistance.html
