Four Bronx fire victims to be laid to rest in Jamaica

Family members of the Jamaicans who perished in a massive blaze at an apartment complex in Bronx, New York last week, have started a Go-Fund-Me page to raise money to assist with the cost of flying the bodies to Jamaica for burial.

Katherine Stewart-Francis, 37, seven-year-old Charmela Francis and two-year-old Kylie Francis, and 19-year-old Shantay Young died when a three-year-old child, playing with a gas stove in a ground floor apartment, set off a fire that quickly engulfed the five-storey building where they lived.

Eight other persons also died in the blaze.

Stewart-Francis' husband and father of Kylie and Charmela remain in hospital in critical condition.

The Jamaican government has also pledged to assist with funeral expenses.
