A woman was hospitalized early Sunday morning following a shooting in Fort Lauderdale, prompting an active investigation by local authorities.

According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 7:21 a.m. in the 800 block of Northwest First Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue transported the woman to Broward Health Medical Center under trauma alert conditions. Police have not released her identity or provided an update on her condition.

The department’s Violent Crimes Unit and crime scene investigators are leading the investigation. Authorities said the shooting appears to be isolated in nature and emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

A resident who spoke to reporters in Spanish expressed surprise at the heavy police presence, noting that the neighborhood is usually quiet.

As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and police have not indicated whether anyone has been detained. Investigators continue to gather information and evidence at the scene.
