Former Trinidad and Tobago Finance Minister Karen Nunez-Tesheira was hospitalized on Wednesday after experiencing a medical emergency during a live television interview.

The incident occurred about 14 minutes into an interview on Real TV’s Conversations with Zelisa, hosted by Zelisa Boodoosingh Rupani on San Juan-based ZM Network Ltd.

During the interview, Nunez-Tesheira began responding to a question from the host before becoming quiet and slumping in her chair. Members of the production team immediately intervened and took her to the hospital.

In a statement, ZM Network Ltd confirmed that Nunez-Tesheira experienced a “medical emergency” during the recording and said she was resting and recovering with her family by her side.

Boodoosingh Rupani said the production team’s primary concern was ensuring Nunez-Tesheira received immediate care.

“Mrs Nunez-Tesheira is a national icon whose service to Trinidad and Tobago spans decades, as an attorney, law lecturer, parliamentarian, and as our country’s former minister of finance,” she said.

“Our team’s first priority was her health and safety. We remain in prayer for her full and speedy recovery, and we ask the public to join us in respecting the privacy of Mrs Nunez-Tesheira and her family at this time.”

Nunez-Tesheira, an attorney by profession, entered Parliament in 2007 after being elected as the first representative for the newly created D’Abadie/O’Meara constituency.

She was appointed Minister of Finance in November 2007 and served in the role during the administration of former Prime Minister Patrick Manning.
