LaToya Malcolm, a former Miss Universe Jamaica contestant and the 2024 Miss Jamaica Bikini International titleholder, has died at the age of 35.
The Miss Universe Jamaica organization announced her passing in a statement shared on Instagram on Saturday, July 18.
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Miss Universe Jamaica alumna LaToya Malcolm, who proudly competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica Competition," the organization said. "Our heartfelt condolences are with her family, friends, and loved ones. Rest peacefully, LaToya. You will never be forgotten."
A cause of death was not disclosed.
Malcolm competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica pageant before going on to capture the Miss Jamaica Bikini International title later that year.
According to the Miss Universe Jamaica organization, Malcolm was a Jamaican actor and entertainer with more than a decade of experience in the entertainment industry. She was also a dance instructor.
Her death prompted an outpouring of tributes from members of the pageant community, including reigning Miss Universe Jamaica Gabrielle Henry.
"After many years of experiencing loss and hardship, I've learnt the deep relevance of pausing and reflecting on the lives of those who lived fully, unapologetically and with great passion. To hear of LaToya's passing is a great loss to her family and the wider community. Jamaica, her impact will always be remembered and her voice will not be forgotten. Wishing her family my deepest condolences. May she rest in peace," Henry wrote on Instagram.
Malcolm's pageant journey was marked by resilience. In 2024, she won the Miss Jamaica Bikini International crown while grieving the death of her father earlier that year. Speaking to the Jamaica Observer at the time, she reflected on persevering through her loss to continue training and ultimately claim the title.
The Miss Universe Jamaica organization remembered Malcolm as a dedicated competitor whose passion and presence left a lasting impression on those who knew her.
She is survived by her family and loved ones.
