The Fort Lauderdale Police Department, in conjunction with Mt. Olivet Seventh-day Adventist Church will host a gun buy back event on Sunday, October 8th from 11:00 A.M until 2:00 P.M.

The event will take place at the Mt. Olivet Seventh-day Adventist Church located at 649 Northwest 15th Way in the City of Fort Lauderdale.

Anyone interested in turning in a firearm at this event can do so without questions being asked.

Depending on the condition of the firearm, individuals participating in the gun buy back will receive a monetary amount between $25.00 and $75.00 in Target gift cards.

The amount of the awarded gift card will be based on the following schedule:


  • $25.00 for small pistols (.22 to .38 caliber)

  • $25.00 for any inoperable or rusted firearm

  • $50.00 for handguns, semi-automatic pistols (.9mm to .45 caliber)

  • $75.00 for Long guns (shotguns, rifles)


Non-traditional firearms (i.e. airsoft or pellet guns) can be turned in, but will not be purchased. All firearms obtained through this event will be destroyed.

Participants are asked to follow these important safety tips:


  1. Take no ammunition

  2. Bring firearms unloaded and inside a secure bag or container

  3. Have the weapon’s cylinder or action open


The Fort Lauderdale Police Department strongly encourages the public to join them on a mission to improve the safety of the region’s neighborhoods.
