Over the weekend, while Florida residents celebrated the fourth of July with limited activities, the state recorded over 20,000 new cases of COVID-19.

A new all-time high COVID-19 record was set on Saturday, with 11, 458 cases and on Sunday, 10,059 new cases were reported.

For the third consecutive day on Sunday, Broward County set a single-day record with 1,664 new cases. Miami-Dade’s increases were 2,282, a day after marking a new county high with 2,418 new cases.

The state is now up to 200,111 confirmed cases. Florida also reported 29 new deaths on Sunday with a total of 3,832 COVID-19 resident deaths.

There were five new deaths in Miami-Dade County, three in Broward and one in Palm Beach County.

Florida has now become the third state in America to surpass 200,000 cases, following New York and California.

An increase in safety measures is now expected to follow after the implementation of the mask orders, closure of bars and the limitations on restaurant hours in the South Florida counties.
