FIFA appoints Jamaicans Daneon Parchment and Odette Hamilton for officiating roles at Paris Olympics

Jamaican referees Daneon Parchment and Odette Hamilton have been chosen by FIFA to officiate at the Paris Summer Olympics 2024, marking a significant achievement for the Caribbean nation in the realm of international football.

The FIFA Referees Committee has appointed a total of 89 match officials from 45 countries to oversee matches at the Olympic Football Tournaments Paris 2024. Among them, Parchment will serve as a Video Match official (VAR), while Hamilton has been selected for a support staff role.

The women’s tournament is scheduled to commence on July 25, 2024, culminating with the gold medal match at the Parc des Princes in Paris on August 10, 2024. On the other hand, the men’s competition will kick off on July 24, 2024, with the gold medal match set to take place on August 9, 2024, also at the Parc des Princes.

Preparation of the match officials will be closely monitored

The preparation of the match officials will be closely monitored by a team of FIFA technical trainers, including referees and VAR instructors, as well as match analysts, fitness coaches, physiotherapists, and sports scientists, ensuring they receive comprehensive guidance and support.

While the Olympic Football Tournaments Paris 2024 serve as the flagship football competitions of the year, for the selected match officials, they represent a crucial step towards the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027, underlining the significance of their roles in shaping the future of international football officiating.
