Excitement builds for inaugural Jamaica Athletics Invitational set for May 11

Track and field enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly anticipating the debut of the Jamaica Athletics Invitational (JAI), scheduled to take place in Kingston on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

This thrilling international meet promises to deliver a captivating fusion of elite athleticism and entertainment, drawing top-tier athletes from across the globe.

Featuring 14 prestigious events, the JAI will showcase the talents of athletes from Jamaica, the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe, competing on the revered grounds of Kingston. Designated as a Silver Continental Tour event by World Athletics, the JAI is poised to offer a world-class spectacle to spectators and fans alike.

Ludlow Watts, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), expressed his excitement about hosting the event in Jamaica, emphasizing the nation's renowned dominance in track and field. "Fans will be treated to some of the world's best athletes showcasing their talents," Watts declared, highlighting the commitment to providing a memorable experience for all attendees.

Fill the stadium to capacity

With aspirations to fill the stadium to capacity, Watts and his team are dedicated to delivering an unforgettable event. The timing of the JAI is strategically positioned as a vital warm-up for athletes ahead of the Summer Olympic Games in Paris and provides a crucial platform for athletes to showcase their skills before their respective National Championships.

The event line-up features a diverse array of competitions, including staple events such as the 100m, 200m, 400m, hurdles, and field events for both male and female athletes. The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) has outlined three primary objectives for the meet: to offer quality competition for fans, provide a platform for athletes to excel, and promote Jamaica as a premier sports destination globally.

Scheduled to commence at 7:00 pm, the Jamaica Athletics Invitational promises an electrifying blend of athletic prowess and entertainment, promising an unforgettable evening of sporting excellence in the heart of the Caribbean.
