Javon East scored twice as Jamaica took advantage of a one-man advantage to defeat El Salvador 2-0 Friday night and move into second place in Concacaf Nations League League A Group B.

East struck in the 39th and 64th minutes at Estadio Cuscatlán, while El Salvador were forced to play with 10 men from the 20th minute after Rudy Clavel was sent off for a reckless challenge on East.

The result moved Jamaica to six points, one behind group leaders Suriname, and restored momentum ahead of Monday's decisive group-stage finale against Honduras.

Red card changes the contest

The opening exchanges were lively, with both sides showing attacking intent before Clavel's dismissal dramatically altered the balance.

Jamaica took time to convert its numerical advantage, but finally broke through six minutes before halftime.

Miguel Freckleton supplied the ball into the penalty area, where East reacted quickest to poke his finish home from close range and give the Reggae Boyz a 1-0 lead with their first effort on goal.

El Salvador struggled to cope after falling behind, while Jamaica increasingly dictated the tempo.

East seals the points

Jamaica remained in command after the interval and extended its advantage shortly after the hour mark.

Substitute Jahmarie Nolan was instrumental in the move, winning possession inside the box before pulling the ball back into East's path.

East made no mistake, meeting the pass with a first-time strike that flew into the roof of the net for his second goal of the night.

The two-goal cushion effectively settled the contest as Jamaica managed the remainder of the match without allowing the hosts a route back into the game.

Group race tightens

Jamaica's victory leaves the Reggae Boyz second on six points, with Suriname atop the standings on seven.

Earlier Friday, Suriname and Guatemala played to a 0-0 draw, while Martinique collected its first points of the campaign with a 2-1 home victory over Honduras.

Jamaica will finish its group campaign against Honduras on Monday.
