Drug and alcohol haul intercepted in Guyana operation

In a significant crackdown on illegal substances, law enforcement authorities in Guyana have successfully intercepted a large cache of narcotics and alcohol. 

Reports are that the narcotics and alcohol seized at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice are worth millions of dollars (One Guyana dollar=US$0.004 cents).

The operation, a collaborative effort between the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) and the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), aimed to curb the trafficking of illegal drugs and the smuggling of contraband goods.

Significant drug and alcohol haul

During the operation at Crabwood Creek, teams from CANU and GRA discovered several parcels of suspected cannabis along with numerous cases of uncustomed alcohol. 

This substantial find highlights the ongoing challenges and successes in combating the region’s illegal drug trade and smuggling activities.

Cannabis confirmed, valuation revealed

Upon further investigation, the suspected cannabis was transported to a GRA facility for processing. Tests confirmed the substance as imported cannabis, weighing in at 48.5 pounds. 

The street value of the seized cannabis is estimated at 12.5 million Guyana dollars, marking a significant blow to the illegal drug market.
