Delon Wright agrees to contract buyout with Wizards, set to join Miami Heat

Delon Wright, guard for the Washington Wizards, is set to join the Miami Heat after agreeing to a contract buyout, as confirmed by his agent, Greg Lawrence, to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The buyout clears the path for Wright to sign with the Heat once he clears waivers.

Wright, 31, experienced a reduced role with the Wizards this season amid the team's rebuilding efforts, seeing the least playing time since his rookie year with just 13.8 minutes per game. However, he comes off a strong 2022-23 campaign where he averaged 7.4 points and nearly four assists per game while shooting efficiently from the field and beyond the arc.

Known for his versatility as a 6-foot-5 combo guard, Wright brings steady shooting, playmaking, and defensive prowess to Miami, where he will bolster the team's backcourt depth, especially with guards Terry Rozier and Josh Richardson recovering from injuries.

If the move materializes, it would mark Wright's eighth NBA team, following a journey that includes stints with various franchises. Interestingly, his older brother, Dorell Wright, was part of the Heat team that clinched the 2006 NBA championship.

Wright's contract buyout comes as he was in the final year of his deal with the Wizards, positioning him to hit free agency this summer, offering him an opportunity to explore new opportunities and contribute to a new team dynamic.
