Florida International University (FIU) Alumni Association, in collaboration with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration Committee, declared the induction of Commissioner Daniela Jean into the MLK Alumni Hall of Fame.

This recognition pays tribute to FIU alumni who, through their exceptional engagement and contributions, have made a profound impact on the university community, with a particular emphasis on advancing minority interests.

A standout nomination

Daniela Jean’s nomination emerged as an outstanding one, highlighting her remarkable professional accomplishments and her significant influence within diverse environments.

Her nomination received unanimous approval from the MLK Commemorative Celebration Committee, followed by a subsequent endorsement by University President Dr. Kenneth Jessell.

This honor elevates Daniela Jean to become the seventh recipient of the MLK Alumni Hall of Fame.

Beyond achievements

In addition to her notable accomplishments, Commissioner Daniela Jean has taken the lead in several initiatives, including the installation of a life-sized MLK statue in the City of North Miami Beach.

She has also pioneered annual MLK-themed contests for the city’s youth and created internship opportunities for FIU students.

The Induction Ceremony

The induction ceremony occurred during the 33rd Annual MLK Commemorative Breakfast on Friday, January 12, 2024.

The event was hosted at the Maidique Modesto campus in the Graham Center Ballrooms.

Cornell William Brooks, a professor at the Harvard Kennedy School and the former president and CEO of the NAACP, delivered this year’s Dotson Family Keynote Address.

Promoting service and thought leadership

The 33rd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Breakfast is one of several events organized by the university each year to encourage student participation in community service and thought leadership.

It serves as a platform to honor individuals like Daniela Jean, who exemplify the values and aspirations championed by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
