Dancehall artist Cham is in mourning following the death of his mother, affectionately known as Mama Jennie.

The entertainer, known for hits such as Ghetto Story and Vitamin S, revealed the heartbreaking news earlier this week via Instagram. In his initial post, Cham shared a somber video featuring Celine Dion’s Goodbye’s (The Saddest Word) alongside the brief but powerful caption: “One Don. Mama Jennie. Jah.”

Though he did not disclose the cause of death, the series of emotional tributes that followed painted a picture of profound loss and deep admiration. In a second post the following day, Cham described his mother as “the most beautiful person I know,” adding, “Jehovah will prepare a place just for you. I’m gonna miss you so much. One Don. Mama Jennie, I love and cherish you with my whole body and soul.”

By Wednesday, the artist continued to share his grief with fans and supporters, writing, “Deh Yah Ah Try Hold It Mama Jennie. One Don. You will always be with me,” accompanied by a touching image of her and another clip of Dion’s emotional ballad.

The posts have sparked an outpouring of support from the music community and beyond. International reggae-dancehall icon Sean Paul commented, “Condolences, my G. Rest in peace. Blessings for you and your family.” Fellow singer Wayne Wonder offered a moving tribute, writing, “Mama Jennie was a woman with a heart full of love and a gentle spirit that could calm any storm. A mother figure who is graceful and a classic lady. Her kindness, warmth, and strength will never be forgotten.”

Veteran singer Nadine Sutherland added, “Hugging you, sweetie. Love and light,” while incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel sent a message of support: “My brother, I send my condolences to your family.”

Mama Jennie’s impact on those around her is clearly evident, both through Cham’s words and the tributes from his peers. As the dancehall star navigates this period of grief, the music fraternity continues to rally around him in love and solidarity.
