A tourist on a cruise ship in the port suffered a tragic accident in Sint Maarten on Tuesday afternoon.

Reports are that the cruise passenger lost part of his leg.

Initial investigations, according to the police, show that the victim jumped into the sea and swam toward a water taxi that was anchored on one of the piers.

He then attempted to board the water taxi, but his foot became stuck in the propeller, causing him to lose a portion of his right leg.

The victim received medical care and was taken to the St Maarten Medical Center.   He is now in a critical but stable condition.

Videos of the incident have been circulating on social media.
