In a dominating display of spin bowling, captain Rahkeem Cornwall led the Leeward Islands Hurricanes to a historic 273-run victory against defending champions Guyana Harpy Eagles in the West Indies Championship.
Cornwall's destructive spell, supported by a clinical team effort, powered the Hurricanes to a memorable win at Warner Park in St Kitts.
Cornwall's exceptional performance saw him claim six wickets for 61 runs from 34 overs, as the Harpy Eagles, chasing a challenging target of 460 runs, were bowled out for 186 in their second innings on the final day of the second-round match. Left-arm spinner Daniel Doram also played a crucial role, contributing with two wickets for 48 runs from 17 overs.
Failed to capitalize
Despite several Harpy Eagles batsmen getting starts, they failed to capitalize, with only Tagenarine Chanderpaul managing to reach 47 runs. The Hurricanes' bowling attack proved too formidable, restricting the opposition and securing their second-biggest win in the championship in terms of runs.
With this victory, the Hurricanes have moved into second place in the standings, trailing leaders Windward Islands Volcanoes. Meanwhile, the Harpy Eagles find themselves in seventh place in the eight-team table.
Hurricanes' next challenge awaits them as they face Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in the upcoming round, while the Harpy Eagles will travel to Antigua to take on the Cricket West Indies Academy at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
