The City of Sunrise invites residents and visitors to celebrate Earth Day 2025 with a vibrant, family-friendly festival on Saturday, April 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Sawgrass Sanctuary, located at 237 North New River Circle. Admission is free.

This year’s event, themed “Our Planet, Our Responsibility,” aims to inspire the community to take meaningful steps toward a cleaner, healthier environment. Attendees can expect live entertainment, delicious food, and a variety of eco-conscious activities in the lush setting of Sunrise’s beloved nature preserve.

The festival kicks off with a Tree-Planting Ceremony at 10:15 a.m., in honor of Arbor Day, followed by the announcement of the 2025 Sunrise Drop Savers Poster Contest Winners. Throughout the day, families can explore butterfly-themed educational displays, enjoy a Kids’ Corner featuring hands-on seed planting, arts and crafts, inflatables, and more.

In support of pollinator conservation, guests are encouraged to “Be a Butterfly Hero” by learning how to help restore habitats and support butterfly populations. The day will conclude with a butterfly release at 12:45 p.m. led by the Good and Green Team.

Sunrise Utilities customers—including those in Sunrise, Weston, Davie, and Southwest Ranches—will be eligible to receive one free tree per property (while supplies last) from Pavilion #1. A variety of native and Florida-friendly trees and shrubs will be available, including:

Wild Tamarind

Simpson's Stopper

Florida Privet

Fiddlewood

Walter's Viburnum

Firebush

Texas Sage

Thryallis

Sweet Almond Bush

Hibiscus

In keeping with the event’s conservation message, attendees are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles—refill stations will be available throughout the park. Please note: coolers, glass bottles, pets, and bicycles are not allowed in the park during the event, although bike parking will be provided.

The City of Sunrise Earth Day Festival is a carbon-neutral event, made possible by the support of Sunrise Utilities Department, Republic Services, and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
