Two Chinese men received minor injuries after gunmen fired shots at a vehicle in an attempted robbery in Mandeville, Manchester on Monday.

The incident occurred in the Ingleside community.

Superintendent Shane McCalla of the Manchester Police station said investigators believe the gunmen wanted cash from the Chinese men.

Reports are that the two men were travelling with large amounts of cash at approximately 11:30 a.m. when they realized they were being trailed by a motor vehicle.

The Chinese men were told to pull over, however, they refused, and the gunmen opened fire. It is reported that the two men were grazed by bullets and were treated at hospital.

Superintendent McCalla is urging businesspeople and the public to be cautious and make proper security arrangements when transporting large sums of cash.

Monday’s incident follows a robbery and attack in December 2022, in which a Chinese businessman and a man were shot and killed in the parish.

It was reported that a group of men entered the supermarket, robbed its owners and customers, then opened fire on leaving.

Chinese national Jin Sian Ye who was one of the supermarket’s proprietors and Alphonso Cohen were killed during the robbery.

Two men and a woman were among those also injured.
