Speaking during Caribbean Week in New York, Rutty, who also serves as minister of tourism and trade development, said the British Overseas Territory welcomed more than 797,000 air and cruise visitors during the first 120 days of the year.

To maintain this momentum, the Cayman Islands is pursuing several initiatives aimed at expanding access, increasing tourism capacity and supporting long-term growth.
Cayman Airways recently expanded its network with new service from Austin, Texas, providing an additional gateway for U.S. travelers.
The destination is also seeing major investments in tourism infrastructure. New hotel developments include the 95-room ONE GT boutique property in George Town and the 382-room Hyatt Grand Cayman. Construction also began in February on the Mandarin Oriental Residences Grand Cayman, the brand’s first purpose-built Caribbean resort, which is scheduled for completion in 2028.
A new national tourism plan is also being developed to guide sustainable growth, strengthen workforce development and create more opportunities for Caymanians to benefit from the industry.
Rutty highlighted ongoing digital initiatives as another area of focus, with a national digital transformation task force examining issues including cybersecurity, the impact of artificial intelligence on the workforce and economic diversification through digital assets.
He also pointed to Cayman Enterprise City’s recent recognition by the Financial Times Group as the top knowledge zone in the Americas and the second-ranked knowledge zone globally.
Looking ahead, Rutty said the government’s priorities over the next 12 to 24 months include maintaining strong visitor arrivals, expanding air connectivity and ensuring Caymanians continue to benefit from the tourism sector’s growth.
