Caribbean stars excel at Miramar Invitational with SVG’s Shafiqua Maloney leading the pack

At the Miramar Invitational held in Florida, Caribbean athletes showcased their talent on the international stage, with Shafiqua Maloney of St Vincent & the Grenadines leading the charge with an impressive victory in the women's 600 meters event.

Maloney, the national record holder in the women’s 800m for SVG, demonstrated her prowess by setting a new national record in the 600m with a time of one minute and 23.80 seconds. Her comfortable win highlighted her exceptional form and solidified her status as a rising star in Caribbean athletics.

Joining Maloney in the winner's circle were three other English-speaking Caribbean athletes who claimed victory in their respective events. Sada Williams, a two-time women’s world 400m bronze medalist, secured victory in the women’s 200m with a time of 22.82 seconds.

Tyler Mason triumphed in the men’s 110 hurdles

Jamaican sprint hurdler Tyler Mason triumphed in the men’s 110 hurdles, clocking 13.57 seconds. Additionally, Bahamian quarter-miler Alonzo Russell clinched victory in the men’s 400m with a season’s best time of 45.35 seconds.

While Maloney's win was the highlight of the Caribbean performances, other notable achievements included Jamaican Danniel Thomas-Dodd's third-place finish in the women’s shot put and Chanice Porter's second-place finish in the women’s long jump.

Overall, the success of Caribbean athletes at the Miramar Invitational underscores the region's growing presence in international athletics and highlights the talent and potential of its competitors on the global stage.
