The suspect who hit and killed a woman with his truck Saturday night was arrested following the deadly incident.

According the Broward County Sheriff at approximately 9:33 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to a hit-and-run call near 130 S.W. Eighth St. in Pompano Beach. On scene, emergency crews located two victims, Brenda Hernandez Amaya and Omar Munguia-Henrique, who were struck and dragged by a vehicle.

It is said paramedics transported the victims to Broward Health North where Hernandez Amaya was pronounced deceased from her injuries. Munguia-Henrique was treated for injuries that were not life threatening.

According to BSO preliminary investigation revealed that a verbal dispute occurred between Hernandez Amaya and the suspect Edwin Amaya over their shared child. At some point during the argument, Edwin Amaya walked to his Ford F-250 truck, backed up the vehicle and then intentionally put it into drive and struck Hernandez Amaya with the front of his truck. Amaya then drove into parked cars while Munguia-Henrique was trying to hang onto the vehicle. Munguia-Henrique subsequently fell off onto the ground. Amaya then fled on foot.

A short time later, deputies located Edwin Amaya in the 700 block of South Dixie Highway and arrested him. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Broward County Main Jail and faces one count of premeditated murder.
