Broward Health Medical Center has introduced the InterStim™ X system from Medtronic, a state-of-the-art solution designed to help patients manage bladder and bowel control issues, including urinary and fecal incontinence.
The innovative treatment is being led by Dr. Felice De Stefano, a colorectal surgeon with the Broward Health Physician Group, at the hospital’s main Fort Lauderdale campus.
“Our goal is to help patients regain control over their lives by offering the latest advancements in treatment,” said Dr. De Stefano.
The InterStim™ X system involves a small implant that targets the sacral nerves, which play a crucial role in bowel and bladder function. According to the National Library of Medicine, over 33 million U.S. adults suffer from overactive bladder — a condition the new device aims to alleviate.
The implant, placed under the skin in the upper buttock, offers a range of benefits, including:
