Celebrating over four decades of dedicated service to educators and students in Broward County, the Broward Education Foundation recently hosted the BrightStar Credit Union’s Fins Up: A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett, presented by Broward Teachers Union, at the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort.

Drawing in crowds of Parrotheads, the Foundation's signature-themed event paid homage to the iconic Jimmy Buffett. Attendees adorned in Hawaiian shirts, colorful leis, straw hats, and flip-flops created a vibrant sea of island spirit as Broward County Public Schools educators, administrators, and community partners came together for the ultimate beachside celebration.

The festivities commenced with a lively 5 O’clock Somewhere cocktail reception, complemented by an enticing silent auction and the melodic tunes of a steel drum band setting the tone in the background. As the night unfolded, guests savored a sumptuous dinner while swaying to the rhythms of a renowned tribute band, delivering Buffett's timeless classics such as “Margaritaville,” “Come Monday,” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”

A standout moment of the evening featured a captivating song and dance performance by the exceptionally talented students from Parkway Middle School, who showcased a medley of Buffett's iconic songs. Additionally, attendees were treated to a touching tribute video honoring Shea Ciriago, President and CEO of the Broward Education Foundation, who will soon be retiring.

“We are incredibly grateful to our many loyal partners and community supporters who enable us to raise much-needed awareness and funds to enrich education for students in Broward County Public Schools,” said Ciriago.

Proceeds from the event contribute to the Broward Education Foundation’s transformative programs and initiatives benefiting students and teachers across Broward County Public Schools. With an annual contribution of over $4 million, the Foundation continues its commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for the community's youth.
