Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) continues to work toward its goal of reopening schools on Monday, September 18, 2017, following Hurricane Irma and will make a final determination as soon as possible.

As of noon Saturday, September 16, 2017, there are 8 District schools without full power. BCPS is receiving updates from Florida Power & Light (FPL) regarding estimates for when power will be restored to these schools and appreciates how hard FPL crews are working to repair power lines across our community that were damaged by the storm.

In addition, District staff continue their efforts to remove debris from school campus and evaluate the potential impact to school bus routes due to downed power lines, inoperable traffic signals and debris on roadways.

At all times, the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. BCPS will continue to keep the community updated on the status of schools and understands the importance of providing families with the necessary time to plan appropriately for students’ return to school.   We appreciate our community’s support and patience during this recovery process.

BCPS updates are provided via a variety of communication channels, including the District website (browardschools.com), robocalls, social media (Twitter @browardschools and on Facebook facebook.com/browardschools), the free BCPS mobile app, BECON-TV and local media. The District also continues to update its Information Hotline at 754-321-0321.
