“We congratulate the students, teachers, administrators, families and community partners at New River Middle School for this outstanding achievement,” BCPS Superintendent Howard Hepburn said.
“The Marine Science and iCAN Magnet Programs provide students with innovative and engaging learning experiences that inspire them to explore their interests and prepare for future success,” he added.
Hepburn said the district was proud to see the school earn the designation and serve as a model for magnet education.
The recognition reflects the school's efforts to provide students with specialized academic programs designed to encourage exploration, develop their interests and prepare them for future opportunities.
The designation places New River Middle School among magnet programs across the United States recognized by Magnet Schools of America for meeting its standards for educational quality and innovation.
