Brazil dominates Reggae Girlz in second 4-0 victory

The Reggae Girlz endured a second successive 4-0 defeat to South American giants Brazil in their international friendly at Fonte Nova Arena in Salvador, Brazil, on Wednesday.

Two goals from Jhennifer and one each from Debinha and Marta sealed a comfortable victory for the hosts, showcasing their dominance throughout the match.

The encounter began disastrously for the Reggae Girlz, with Debinha breaching the Jamaican defense just seven minutes in, slotting home from close range to put Brazil ahead 1-0. The home team then controlled the tempo of the game, orchestrating their attacks while keeping the Reggae Girlz on the back foot.

Close to doubling their lead

Brazil came close to doubling their lead through attempts from Byanca Brasil, Gabi Portilho, and Rafaelle Souza from a corner, but the Reggae Girlz managed to hold on defensively for the first half hour. However, in the 35th minute, a defensive lapse allowed Gabi Nunes a golden opportunity, but she failed to connect from three yards out.

Despite Brazil's dominance, the Reggae Girlz went into halftime without conceding any further goals.

The second half began similarly, with Brazil maintaining possession and pressure. The Reggae Girlz slowly found their footing, and in the 55th minute, Jody Brown registered Jamaica's first attempt at goal, narrowly missing the target. Three minutes later, Kayla McKenna also came close, turning a cross from Atlanta Primus just wide from six yards out.

Prime opportunity to pull one back

Brazil reasserted their control after the hour mark, and in the 64th minute, Jhennifer pounced on a rebound, smashing it into the roof of the net from two yards out after Sydney Schneider saved Gabi Nunes’ initial header from a corner.

McKenna had a prime opportunity to pull one back for the Reggae Girlz in the 67th minute, following an excellent pass from Allyson Swaby, but her shot struck the post from inside the box.

The match was effectively over in the 73rd minute when Jhennifer curled the ball into the far corner past Schneider, making it 3-0. Marta, the legendary Brazilian forward, then added the final touch with a precise free-kick from the edge of the area in the 84th minute, sealing a comprehensive victory for Brazil.
