Jamaica’s Chris Binnie won an unprecedented eighth title at the Caribbean Area Squash Association’s (CASA) Senior Championships in Kingstown, St. Vincent on Tuesday night.

 

Playing in his ninth consecutive final, the defending champion defeated Cayman Islands’ national, Cameron Stafford, to extend his winning streak to eight successive titles. After a competitive first game, which Binnie won, he accelerated his play to claim a 12-10, 11-7, 11-4 win over his arch rival.

Very happy and grateful

“I’m very happy and grateful to win my eighth Caribbean title as I have put in a great deal of work preparing for this pro season. This was my first event of the season and thankfully things are looking good,” said Binnie

“This win will give me confidence moving forward. I am excited to see what this year holds for me. I want to thank all my sponsors, JN Fund Managers, WATA and Stoneleigh Coffee and also my supporters for their incredible support because none of this would be possible without them.”

Team competition next

The tournament now moves into the team competition which will run from August 16 – 19.

The Jamaican players are drawn in the tough Group A where they will face both Guyana and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) on Thursday.
