Sweden announced their return to the World Cup stage in emphatic fashion, producing a commanding 5-1 victory over Tunisia to move to the top of Group F on Sunday.

Yasin Ayari scored twice, while Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres each contributed a goal and an assist as Sweden overwhelmed their opponents with pace, movement, and attacking quality.

The victory marked a strong response from a team that missed the 2022 tournament after reaching the quarterfinals at Russia 2018.

Ayari opens and closes Sweden’s dominant night

The breakthrough arrived quickly.

Just seven minutes into the contest, Ayari unleashed a powerful long-range strike that gave Sweden an early advantage at Estadio BBVA.

The midfielder chose not to celebrate wildly, instead raising his hands in respect toward Tunisia, the country of his father’s birth.

It was a moment of personal significance during Sweden’s fast start.

Ayari would later put the finishing touch on the victory, scoring again in stoppage time to complete the scoring and cap a memorable individual performance.

Isak and Gyökeres put Tunisia under pressure

Sweden’s attacking threat grew as the match progressed.

Alexander Isak doubled the advantage in the 30th minute after a devastating counterattack created by Viktor Gyökeres.

The Liverpool forward collected the pass, cut inside, and fired a low finish beyond Tunisian goalkeeper Mouhib Chamakh.

The goal was Isak’s 18th for his country and another reminder of the quality Sweden possesses in attack.

Speaking afterward, Isak highlighted the value of his partnership with Gyökeres.

“We have quite different qualities, which is very beneficial for the team,” Isak said.

“We can bring different types of attacks.”

Tunisia responds, but Sweden restores control

Tunisia refused to collapse.

Omar Rekik pulled one back in the 43rd minute, briefly giving the North Africans hope of a comeback.

But Sweden immediately regained control after halftime.

Isak created the next breakthrough by winning possession and setting up Gyökeres for a one-on-one opportunity.

The Arsenal striker made no mistake, calmly beating Chamakh for his 16th goal in his last 15 appearances for Sweden and his 21st overall internationally.

Potter sees attack take shape

The performance showcased the chemistry between Sweden’s two leading forwards.

Coach Graham Potter praised the relationship developing between Isak and Gyökeres but emphasized that the entire team effort made the difference.

“Behind them, they needed a team that functioned well,” Potter said.

“I’m pleased for the players tonight that we took a step forward in that.”

Sweden seize control of Group F

The victory moved Sweden into first place in Group F after the Netherlands and Japan played to a 2-2 draw earlier in the day.

For Tunisia, the result continued a difficult World Cup history.

Despite appearing in their seventh tournament, they are still searching for a first-ever appearance in the knockout stage.

Sweden, however, look ready to make noise.

A missed World Cup in 2022 is already behind them.

The new campaign has begun with a message:

Sweden are back, and they mean business.
