As counties across the nation seek to raise public awareness about the vital roles they play in the overall health of their communities, Broward County is celebrating April as National County Government Month along with the National Association of Counties (NACo).

This year’s theme, “Counties Matter,” demonstrates how counties help to improve people's lives every day, especially for local government workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic. It also focuses on ways county programs deliver essential services to ensure a healthy, safe and vibrant community and enhance the community's quality of life by providing effective, efficient, people-centered services that matter.

With more than 60 agencies, Broward County is working to make sure residents know about county services that can benefit them and is playing a vital role in keeping residents informed and safe during the persistent COVID-19 pandemic.

This month, the county is highlighting some of the many programs and initiatives in the areas of public safety, health services, emergency notifications, children and family services, business opportunities, education, and recreational resources.

These programs and more can be accessed on the county’s  “Counties Matter” website, on social media at Twitter and Facebook, and on displays in the lobbies of the Governmental Centers in downtown Fort Lauderdale and Plantation later this week.

To learn more about this initiative, visit the NACo website. For more information on National County Government Month and Broward County’s effort to serve the community, visit Broward.org/CountiesMatter.
