Antiguans and Barbudians brace for rising water costs
In the aftermath of a sales tax increase, Antigua and Barbuda face another economic challenge with the announcement of rising water costs.
The decision was disclosed in a post-Cabinet meeting briefing.

The hike in water rates will first affect commercial customers starting March 1, with residential rates to be adjusted subsequently.
General commercial customers will see an EC$10 rise per 1000 gallons, a 20 per cent increase, while the cruise port faces a hefty 75 per cent increase of EC$25 per 1000 gallons.
Strategic financial management
Melford Nicholas, overseeing the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) stated that emphasized the necessity of these adjustments, pointing out their role in repaying loans for enhanced water infrastructure.
By recalibrating the rates, the authority plans to cover loan obligations while improving water access and quality for all.
