Another Jamaican has been appointed to serve in the White House in President Joe Biden’s administration. Professor Renee Bowen was recently appointed as the senior economist for trade with the Council of Economic Advisers.

The Jamaican, who is also the pastor faculty fellow at the University of California San Diego, will hold the position for one year.

Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness sent his congratulations to Bowen via social media, saying that she has Bowen, who is a daughter of the soil, "has given back to Jamaica through various policy advisory commissions.

“Prof Renee Bowen will share her skills with the Biden Administration, focusing on international economic affairs & coordinating with other organisations including, the Office of the US Trade Representative, National Security Council, & the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US,” he added.

Speaking on her appointment, Bowen told the UC San Diego News Center: “I am extremely excited to serve in the Biden administration by providing expertise on economic policy based on data, research and evidence… I look forward to creating more opportunities to bridge the worlds of policymaking and academia to help build a better future for the United States and the world.”

Professor Bowen joins Vice President Kamala Harris, Kristen Clarke and Susan Rice as White House officials of Jamaican heritage.
