In a prestigious event held in the iconic Kaufman Music Center’s Merkin Hall in Manhattan, a significant accolade, the Woman of Distinction Award, was bestowed upon Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, Her Excellency Audrey Marks. 

The ambassador was recognized for her exceptional contributions to diplomacy, entrepreneurship, and social advocacy during the 2023 Griffin Awards ceremony hosted by the Jamaica College Old Boys Association New York Chapter (JCOBA-NY).

Breaking the glass ceiling: A dual achiever

The Griffin Award, a covetous recognition, echoed the corridors of history as Marks is celebrated as the first female Jamaican Ambassador to the United States and the first woman to be honored with this award. 

Notably, she has been appointed to the ambassadorial position twice, adding another feather to her cap of extraordinary accomplishments.

An entrepreneurial powerhouse: Beyond diplomacy

Before stepping onto the global diplomatic stage, Marks was renowned for her entrepreneurial spirit and innovative foresight. 

With a portfolio boasting the establishment and management of six vibrant enterprises, including the pioneering online payment system Paymaster (Jamaica) Limited, Marks has undoubtedly made her mark in advancing economic development and showcasing an extraordinary blend of versatility and commitment.
