DUBAI, UAE – The cricketing world is abuzz with excitement as West Indies' dynamic left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein has soared to the pinnacle of the ICC T20 bowling rankings, cementing his place in history as only the third West Indian to achieve the coveted honor.

The 31-year-old's breath-taking performance during the opening T20 International against Bangladesh showcased his precision and artistry. With figures of 2-13 from four overs, Hosein’s efforts not only dismantled Bangladesh's batting order but also propelled him to the top with a formidable 707 rating points. This meteoric rise saw him surpass England’s seasoned Adil Rashid, Sri Lanka’s spin wizard Wanindu Hasaranga, and Australia’s Adam Zampa.

Joining the ranks of legendary spinners Samuel Badree and Sunil Narine, Hosein now holds a spot of reverence in West Indies cricket. Reflecting on his milestone, the Trinidadian bowler said, “It's an honor to represent the West Indies at the highest level, and to be recognized among such legends is incredibly humbling.”

Hosein’s ascension is backed by his consistency

Hosein’s ascension is backed by his consistency in the shortest format of the game, where he has claimed 60 wickets for the West Indies, a tally he shares with the versatile Andre Russell.

Adding to the Caribbean celebrations, left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie also features prominently in the latest ICC rankings, securing ninth place with an impressive 651 points. Meanwhile, Roston Chase, another standout player, reached a career-high ninth position in the all-rounder rankings.

These rankings highlight the resurgence of West Indies cricket on the global stage, with Hosein leading the charge. His dominance with the ball, coupled with the team’s depth, signals a promising future for T20 cricket in the region.
