Palm Beach County is observing Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) this April with a series of powerful public displays and events aimed at raising awareness and supporting survivors of sexual violence.

The county’s Public Safety Department Victim Services & Certified Rape Crisis Center is leading the effort, inviting residents to stand in solidarity with survivors by participating in a range of activities throughout the month.

Two poignant “Field of Flags” installations have been set up—one in front of the Historic Courthouse in downtown West Palm Beach, and another at the Pahokee Library. The 596 teal flags represent each adult, teen, and child survivor who received support from the county’s Victim Services team in 2024. The displays serve as a visual reminder of the impact of sexual violence in the community and an opportunity for reflection and remembrance.

Adding to the awareness efforts, the Historic Courthouse and the Four Points Building on South Military Trail will be lit in teal—the official color of SAAM—throughout April.

“Unfortunately, these crimes are a lot more common than people think,” said Nicole Bishop, Director of the Victim Services Division. “This month, we invite the community to take a stand, educate themselves, and show their support.”

The county’s month-long campaign will culminate in Healing through the Arts: A Community Art Event on Saturday, April 26, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Compass Community Center in Lake Worth Beach. The event will offer residents an opportunity to come together in creativity, healing, and shared commitment to ending sexual violence.
