Miramar Completes $11 million University Drive improvements

Miramar, FL – August 5, 2024 – The City of Miramar yesterday celebrated the successful completion of the University Drive Mobility Improvements project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.  The program done in partnership with Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) highlights extensive enhancements made to improve mobility and safety for residents.

City of Miramar Commissioner and MPO Chair, Yvette Colbourne, stated that the $11 million investment has greatly enhanced mobility and safety for the residents of Miramar: “This project provides safer and more accessible options for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users. As a City of Miramar Commissioner, I am happy to see the vision for a connected and mobile community come to life and I am grateful for the partner agencies who have worked to make this happen. The improvements will benefit our city for years to come, reflecting our dedication to investing in our community.”

Deputy Executive Director of MPO, Mr. James Cromar added: “I have been working with the City of Miramar for years. It happens to be one of the best cities I work with, consistently demonstrating a commitment to forward-thinking infrastructure improvements.”

Also in attendance were members of the FDOT and Eisman Russo Engineering firm, underscoring the collaborative effort that brought this project to fruition.

Assistant City Engineer and Project Manager, Leah DeRiel, explained the multi-modal nature of the project. She highlighted that the expansion benefits all users, whether they use motor vehicles, bicycles, are pedestrians, or rely on public transit. “The University Drive Mobility Improvements project is designed to cater to everyone, enhancing connectivity and safety across the board.”
