The City of Miramar is gearing up to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a wide range of free cultural events designed to highlight the significant contributions of the Hispanic community.
Running from September 15 to October 15, 2024, the month-long festivities will feature art exhibits, music festivals, and educational opportunities for residents and visitors.
Kicking off the celebrations is the Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-Off on Monday, September 16, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Miramar Town Center. Hosted by Commissioner Yvette Colbourne, the event will include live performances and cultural presentations, setting the tone for the vibrant festivities to follow.
“Hispanic Heritage Month is a time for our community to come together and celebrate the vibrant history, art, and achievements of the Hispanic people,” said Commissioner Colbourne. “We are proud to honor their contributions that have shaped our City and the nation.”
Throughout the month, residents can explore the Spirals of Hispanic Art Exhibit, which runs from September 12 to October 27 at the Ansin Family Art Gallery. Curated by the Latin American Art Pavilion, the exhibit showcases the talents of Latin American artists. A special reception to celebrate the exhibit will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
Music lovers can look forward to the Miramar Latin Music Festival on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Amphitheater at Miramar Regional Park. The festival, hosted by Commissioner Colbourne, will feature performances by renowned Latin artists and promises a lively night of entertainment.
In addition, the City will host a Student Art Contest under the theme “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together,” led by Vice Mayor Alexandra P. Davis. Students from schools across Miramar are invited to submit artwork, with submissions due by Sunday, September 29, 2024.
The celebrations continue into October with Latin Nights on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Miramar Cultural Center Banquet Hall. The evening, hosted by Vice Mayor Davis, will be filled with music and performances celebrating Latin culture.
Other key events include a free concert featuring Santiago Cruz with special guest Katie James on Saturday, October 12, and the Hispanic Business Awards 2024 Reception, hosted by Mayor Wayne Messam on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the Miramar Cultural Center.
