Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is beginning to explore a potential collaboration with the 2026 FIFA World Cup Miami Host Committee, aiming to create new educational and career opportunities for students ahead of the global event.
At the School Board Meeting on June 18, 2025, School Board Member Danny Espino, representing District 5, introduced agenda item H-6. The directive asks the Superintendent of Schools to explore potential partnerships, including:
-
“Identifying opportunities for student internships and workforce development programs in conjunction with the World Cup;”
-
“Exploring youth soccer enrichment and infrastructure initiatives in partnership with community stakeholders;”
-
“Collaborating with FIFA on educational programming, exhibitions, and cultural events that can be hosted at District schools or facilities;” and
-
“Development of a cross-curricular instructional framework that incorporates themes from the World Cup into existing academic content areas.”
Miami will host the FIFA World Cup in June and July 2026, providing a unique platform to engage students with global, cultural, and professional experiences. According to Espino, the initiative aims to leverage the event “to expand student access to internships in fields like sports management, media, and hospitality, while promoting youth soccer development, arts, and interdisciplinary learning.”
The proposed collaboration envisions hands-on experiences, school-based cultural festivals, and classroom projects centered around World Cup themes. These efforts are designed to deepen academic learning, enhance career readiness, and foster global citizenship among students.
Espino emphasized the significance of this initiative, saying, “The 2026 FIFA World Cup offers a unique chance to connect our students to global, cultural, and career-building experiences. This collaboration can turn a world event into meaningful opportunities that enrich learning and prepare our students for the future.”
A status report detailing preliminary findings and recommendations related to this collaboration will be presented at the Personnel, Student, School, and Community Support Committee Meeting on August 6, 2025.
