A police officer from the Miami-Dade Police Department has been arrested on kidnapping and armed sexual battery charges.
Officer Miguel Lomeli, 32, was apprehended on Wednesday.
Records from the Miami-Dade jail revealed that he faced a series of charges, including armed sexual battery, kidnapping, and armed burglary.
Reports are that there was a verbal dispute between Officer Lomeli and his former girlfriend which occurred outside her residence.
Allegations of sexual assault
According to law enforcement authorities, Officer Lomeli took his ex-girlfriend inside her residence and allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Reports are that Officer Lomeli was arrested and subsequently booked into jail.
A statement from the police director
Miami-Dade Police Director Stephanie Daniels expressed her deep concern over the shocking allegations.
In her statement, she said, “The allegations are extremely troubling.”
Director Daniels underscored the importance of upholding the integrity of their police department, emphasizing that the trust of all Miami-Dade County residents must be safeguarded at all costs.
She affirmed her unwavering commitment to ensuring that the department’s badge remains untarnished, regardless of the circumstances.
