The Jamaican-American Bar Association (JABA) hosted its Annual Grand Gala on Saturday, Nov. 15, bringing together legal professionals, community leaders, and supporters for an evening of entertainment, recognition, and cultural pride at the Westin Hotel.
The black-tie event featured a performance by iconic dancehall entertainer Mr. Vegas, offering a lighter glimpse into the community of Jamaican-American attorneys while spotlighting the organization’s ongoing efforts to support the professional advancement of its members.
The Judiciary was out in full force, with both state and federal judges in attendance. Hon. Judge Maxine Cheesman of Palm Beach delivered the keynote address after accepting JABA’s Exemplary Judiciary Member Award. Accolades also went to Attorney of the Year Jeremy McLymont, Esq., and to Public Servant honoree Lauderhill Commissioner John T. Hodgson — who also served as master of ceremonies for the gala.

Guests enjoyed a dinner of sliced red snapper and jerk chicken breast with rice and pigeon peas, followed by orange cheesecake, before hitting the dance floor to music from DJ Mark Swaby. The gala concluded at 11 p.m.
Founded in 2007 by attorney Don James, JABA works to advance the professional interests of Jamaican-American lawyers while serving the broader community. The association offers mentorship, educational programs, and other resources for emerging “Jamerican” attorneys, as well as scholarships for law students of Jamaican descent.
