EOJ offices to open on Saturdays for ahead of Jamaica general election

In preparation for Jamaica's upcoming general election, all constituency offices of the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) will open on Saturdays starting August 9 to facilitate the collection of national voter ID cards.

The offices will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., providing more flexible access for registered electors who may be unable to visit during regular weekday hours.

Director of Elections, Glasspole Brown, said the decision was made in direct response to public demand.

“We are opening our offices on Saturdays to make it convenient for electors to be able to collect their voter ID card ahead of the upcoming general election. We have had a number of requests from electors who want to collect their ID card but cannot make it to the offices before closing hours during the workweek,” he said.

The EOJ is encouraging all electors who have not yet collected their renewed voter ID cards to take advantage of the extended hours to ensure they are fully prepared to vote on election day.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has hinted that the election date will be announced shortly. Speaking at a recent Jamaica Labour Party Gospel Concert in Buff Bay, Portland, Holness said, “It is by now very clear that very soon there will be an election,” adding, “My job, therefore, is to make our calling and election sure.”
