The United States Embassy in Bridgetown has confirmed that there has been no change to the U.S. travel advisory for Barbados, dismissing a widely circulated false alert that claimed the island had been elevated to a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” status.
In a statement issued Friday, the Embassy clarified that Barbados remains at Level 1: Exercise Normal Precautions — the lowest risk classification issued by the U.S. Department of State.
“The Travel Advisory for Barbados remains at Level One,” the Embassy stated, urging U.S. citizens and visitors to rely on official channels for travel updates. The clarification comes after an unofficial alert falsely claimed that the advisory had been raised due to increased crime and limited emergency services on the island.
The Embassy reminded travelers that all official travel advisories are published through trusted platforms such as travel.state.gov and the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which provides timely alerts and facilitates consular support for U.S. citizens abroad.
The current advisory for Barbados, last updated in August 2024, encourages standard safety precautions — reflecting the island’s continued status as a popular and generally safe destination for American tourists.
