Jamaican police say the British man who was killed at a property in Bogue Heights, St. James in Jamaica on Monday is believed to be a result of a contract killing.
He is 33-year-old Sean Patterson, a personal trainer from West London in Britain.
Patterson, who became Jamaica’s first murder victim in St. James for 2023 is said to have had a criminal record in his native country.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey, who is in charge of the crime and security portfolio says the police believe Patterson’s death resulted from a contract killing from the United Kingdom.
Bailey said Patterson is well-known to the UK authorities and has an extensive criminal record for several offences, which include narcotics, violence, and firearm.
He added that there is no indication that Patterson was robbed or has any connections in Jamaica.
Reports are that Patterson arrived at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James on December 29, 2022.
Patterson, who arrived with a male companion, a construction worker, spent three days at an apartment.
They later stayed at the villa starting January 1, 2023.
According to DCP Bailey, on the same day, the two British men went to a concert in Priory, St Ann, where they met a man identified as Oshane Richards.
Richards, also known as ‘Shabba’, is said to be a construction worker from Kingston 13. According to the DCP, Richards was deported from the UK in 2013 following a conviction for crack cocaine.
Following the concert, the three men returned to the villa.
Patterson and Richards were o the pool deck about midday on Monday when a lone gunman approached Patterson and shot him.
When the police arrived at the scene, Patterson was found in a pool of blood.
He was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
DCP Bailey said the local authorities are collaborating with international partners and are making great progress.
