A second man has accepted a deal and pleaded guilty to the murder of Jamaican Member of Parliament Phillip Paulwell’s 10-month-old daughter Sarayah and her 27-year-old mother Toshyna Patterson.
The man pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to kidnap, two counts of accessory before the fact to murder, and one count of misprision of felony in a court hearing on Friday.
This is the second of three men accused in the kidnapping/double murder case to accept a deal and plead guilty. The first pleaded guilty in court on Thursday.
The identities of both men were initially withheld for safety concerns, however, the Jamaica Gleaner identified the men as Rushane Miller, a 29-year-old air conditioning technician, and Richard Brown, a 31-year-old Graphic Designer.
They will return to court on November 15 for sentencing.
The two men are among four persons charged with the brutal killing of the mother and child.
US Navy petty officer Leoda Bradshaw, who shares a child with Phillip Paulwell, is alleged to be the mastermind behind the crime.
Bradshaw was charged on October 13 with two counts of conspiracy to kidnap, two counts of conspiracy to murder, two counts of kidnapping, and two counts of capital murder.
It is alleged that Bradshaw, who lives in the United States, visited Jamaica in September with the intention of killing the mother and child. Bradshaw and her cousin and co-accused 30-year-old Graphic Designer Roland Balfour allegedly hired Miller and Brown to execute the crime.
A sum of JMD $500,000 was allegedly paid for the murder of Patterson and baby Paulwell. The bodies of Sarayah Paulwell and her mother were reportedly found on October 6, at an undisclosed location in Rockfort, East Kingston.
Balfour was charged with conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to kidnapping and misprison of felony. Meanwhile, Bradshaw has been remanded until a further hearing scheduled for December 1.
