This strategic initiative unfolds at key locations including the La Croix Palletization Centre, Orange Hill Biotechnical Facility, and the Wallilabou Agricultural Station, where the kits are being managed and prepared for distribution.

Collaborative efforts enhance farming efficiency

The operation involves various stakeholders, including Aquatec and Agile Water, the suppliers of the irrigation systems, alongside officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry, and Labour.

These drip irrigation kits are poised to transform farming methods by enabling more efficient water use, thus boosting both production and productivity.

Focal points on maximizing limited water resources

Colville King, the Focal Point for the UBEC CERC Food Insecurity Project, highlighted the critical need to optimize water resources amid scarcity.

This initiative is expected to provide a sustainable solution to water management in agriculture, crucial for the continuity of farming activities during adverse climatic conditions.

Training and support: Preparing farmers for the future

Project Manager, Roxanne John, announced that farmers would receive necessary training to effectively install and operate the new systems. This education is crucial, especially to withstand the challenging dry seasons.

Additionally, representatives from Agile Water and Aqua Tec, Mr. Lahcen Elhaddaji and Romain Graciano, expressed their commitment to ongoing technical support to ensure the successful adoption of the technologies.

Anticipated impact on food security

The distribution of the irrigation kits is expected to begin shortly, marking a pivotal step towards enhancing food and nutrition security.
